Tom Bladon

Thomas George Bladon, a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman, was born December 29, 1952, in Edmonton, Alberta. He played nine seasons in the National Hockey League for the Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, and Detroit Red Wings, winning the Stanley Cup with the Flyers in 1974 and 1975.

Bladon began his amateur career with the Edmonton Maple Leafs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. On October 22, 1968, he was indefinitely suspended after breaking the jaw of an opponent. The Maple Leafs threatened to withdraw from the AJHL entirely in protest, and after the club appealed, the Alberta Amateur Hockey Association agreed to reinstate him. He scored in his return to the lineup on December 17 against the Red Deer Rustlers. During the 1969–70 AJHL season, Bladon was moved from forward to defenceman following the death of team captain and defenceman Lorne Owens. He graduated high school in 1970 but chose not to pursue higher education. After his playing career, he became a businessman.
