Tom Downey

Thomas Edward Downey (January 1, 1884 - August 3, 1961). He was a native of Lewiston, Maine, listed in playing days at 5'10", 178 lbs. He was a switch-hitter and threw right-handed. His major-league career ran from 1909 through 1915, primarily with the Cincinnati Reds of the National League. His broader professional ledger — including minor-league seasons — extends from 1902 through 1919. On the cardboard side, his vintage presence is anchored to the E254 Colgan's Chips issue, which is where collectors of the period most commonly encounter him. He died on August 3, 1961 in Passaic, New Jersey. He is interred at St. Michael Cemetery in Stratford, Connecticut.
