Tom Tracy

John Thomas "Tom The Bomb" Tracy (September 7, 1934 – January 24, 1996) was an American professional football halfback-fullback. He played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers before beginning his professional career in Canada, where he spent one full season and part of another with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League, earning All-Star recognition in his rookie year.

Tracy was selected by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round (50th overall) of the 1956 NFL draft. After nearly two seasons with the Lions, he moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he became a prominent back and was named to a pair of Pro Bowls. The Sporting News voted him a first-team All-Conference All-Pro for the 1960 season. He also played for the Washington Redskins during his NFL career.

Consistently listed at 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10 and 205 pounds, Tracy was undersized for his position, especially at the professional level. He went by the nickname "Tom The Bomb" because of his squatty body, deceptive quickness, and well-timed cuts that allowed him to explode into the open field.
