Dossier

Thomas Jefferson Davis Bridges (December 28, 1906 – April 19, 1968) was a right-handed pitcher who spent his entire Major League Baseball career with the Detroit Tigers from 1930 to 1946. A Tennessee native who attended the University of Tennessee, Bridges relied on an outstanding curveball to anchor Detroit's pitching staff through the 1930s, winning 20 games in three consecutive seasons. He contributed two victories in the 1935 World Series, helping the Tigers claim their first championship. Bridges retired with 1,674 career strikeouts and held the Tigers franchise strikeout record from 1941 to 1951.
