Tommy Casanova

Thomas Henry Casanova III (born July 29, 1950) is an American former professional football player and politician who played safety in the National Football League. He attended Notre Dame High School, a Roman Catholic school in Crowley, Louisiana, and as a senior was chosen to play in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association all-star game.

Casanova played college football for the LSU Tigers at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, serving as a running back, kick returner, and defensive back. As a freshman in 1968, he led the team in rushing with 209 yards on 54 attempts while also returning punts and kickoffs. In 1969, his first year on the varsity, he was shifted to cornerback. He was twice named a consensus All-American.

In the NFL, Casanova played six seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals as a safety. He was selected to three Pro Bowls and was named an All-Pro in 1976.

After his football career, Casanova entered politics as a Republican. He served a single term in the Louisiana State Senate from 1996 to 2000.
