Tommy Vann Helms (May 5, 1941, Charlotte, North Carolina) was a second baseman who spent 14 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1964 to 1977. He signed with the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent in 1959 out of West Mecklenburg High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps before reaching the majors. Helms spent eight seasons with Cincinnati, four with the Houston Astros, and one each with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox. He won the 1966 National League Rookie of the Year Award, earned two Gold Glove Awards at second base, and was selected to two All-Star teams.
