Tommy Nobis

Thomas Henry Nobis Jr. (September 20, 1943 – December 13, 2017), nicknamed "Mr. Falcon," was an American professional football linebacker who played 11 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, he attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where he was an all-state offensive end and middle linebacker for the Mustangs.

Nobis played college football for the Texas Longhorns from 1963 to 1965, lining up at both linebacker and guard. He averaged nearly 20 tackles a game and, as the only sophomore starter, was an important participant on the Longhorns' 1963 national championship team, which defeated second-ranked Navy and Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach in the Cotton Bowl. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity at the university. A two-time All-American, he made the All-Southwest Conference team three times and won the Maxwell Award in 1965.

Selected first overall in the 1966 NFL draft, Nobis spent his entire professional career with the Atlanta Falcons, earning the nickname "Mr. Falcon" over his 11 seasons with the franchise.
