Tony Esposito

Anthony James "Tony O" Esposito (April 23, 1943 – August 10, 2021) was a Canadian-American professional ice hockey goaltender who played 16 seasons in the National Hockey League, 15 of them for the Chicago Blackhawks. He was one of the pioneers of the now-popular butterfly style. The younger brother of centre Phil Esposito, Tony grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

In his rookie season of 1970, Esposito recorded 15 shutouts, the modern NHL record for a single season (since 1942), and was awarded the Calder Trophy as the league's best rookie. He won the Vezina Trophy three times, then awarded to the goaltender or goaltenders of the team allowing the fewest goals in the regular season, most notably in 1970. He was named to the league's First All-Star Team three times and to the Second All-Star Team twice. In 1972 he served as one of Canada's two goaltenders in the Summit Series against the Soviet Union.

The Blackhawks retired his jersey number 35 in 1988. Both Esposito and his brother Phil are enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 2017 he was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history.
