Tony Leswick

Anthony Joseph Leswick (March 17, 1923 – July 1, 2001) was a Canadian ice hockey forward who played mostly for the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. He is best known for scoring the series-winning goal in overtime of game seven of the 1954 Stanley Cup Final.

Leswick played his junior hockey with the Saskatoon Dodgers and Saskatoon Quakers, where he quickly gained attention. In 1942 he jumped to the American Hockey League with the Cleveland Barons, scoring 40 points in only 52 games. The following season he moved to the Pacific Coast Hockey League to play for the New Westminster Royals, recording 36 points in 19 games. He then joined HMCS Chippawa of the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve, helping to win the 1944–45 Basil Baker trophy for inter-service hockey.

The New York Rangers acquired him in June 1945 and, based on his performance, added him to their lineup for the remainder of the 1945–46 NHL season. Leswick scored 15 goals in his shortened rookie season for the Rangers and quickly established himself, later moving on to the Detroit Red Wings, with whom he scored his Stanley Cup–winning overtime goal in 1954.
