Tony Shaver

Tony Shaver (born January 28, 1954) is an American college basketball coach. He played college basketball at North Carolina under Dean Smith from 1972 until 1976, making the team as a walk-on and playing alongside Tar Heels including Mitch Kupchak, Tom LaGarde, Phil Ford and Walter Davis on a team that twice reached the NCAA tournament.

After graduating from UNC, Shaver became head coach at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, where he remained for 10 years, ending his tenure as the Virginia State Private School Coach of the Year in 1986. Following that season he moved to the collegiate ranks as head coach at Hampden-Sydney College. Over 17 seasons with the Tigers, he won nearly 75% of his games and built the program into a national power at the Division III level.

In 2003 Shaver was named head men's basketball coach at the College of William & Mary, a position he held from the 2003–04 through 2018–19 seasons. He departed as the winningest coach in William & Mary history, finishing his tenure there with an overall record of 226 wins and 268 losses.
