Tris Speaker was an American professional baseball player and manager. He served as manager of the Boston Red Sox, one of the American League's eight charter franchises, founded in 1901. The Red Sox played their home games at Fenway Park, which opened in 1912. The franchise was a dominant force in the early American League, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series in 1903 and winning four more championships by 1918.
