Vernon Sanders Law pitched sixteen seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1950–51, 1954–67), throwing and batting right-handed. A control pitcher, he consistently ranked among the top National League hurlers in fewest walks per nine innings. His signature season came in 1960, when he won the Cy Young Award — the first Pittsburgh pitcher to receive the honor — and earned a World Series ring with the Pirates. In 1965, he won the Lou Gehrig Award and the Associated Press National League Comeback Player of the Year Award. Law was inducted into the Pirates Hall of Fame in August 2025.
