Vic Stasiuk

Victor John Stasiuk (May 23, 1929 – May 7, 2023) was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger and coach who played in the National Hockey League from 1949 to 1963 and later coached from 1969 to 1973. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, he played junior hockey in his hometown before signing with the Chicago Black Hawks, where he saw limited ice time. In 1951 he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings, spending stretches in the minor leagues with the Indianapolis Capitals and the Edmonton Flyers. With Edmonton he led the team in scoring with 37 goals and 43 assists during the regular season as the Flyers captured the 1953 WHL championship, and he earned selection to the WHL First All-Star Team. Stasiuk was a member of three Stanley Cup-winning Detroit teams, in 1952, 1954, and 1955. He recorded one assist in the 1952 Final and did not appear in the 1954 Final, as he was in the minors at the time; though he played 42 regular-season games for Detroit in 1954, his name was left off the Cup that year. He posted three goals and three assists in the 1955 Final, contributing eight points in eleven games during that championship run. In 1955 he was traded to the Boston Bruins.
