Wally Hilgenberg

Walter William Hilgenberg (September 19, 1942 – September 23, 2008) was a linebacker who played 16 seasons in the NFL. Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, he grew up in Wilton and played college football at the University of Iowa, where he lined up on both sides of the ball as a linebacker and guard. Detroit selected him in the fourth round of the 1964 NFL Draft. After four seasons with the Lions, he was traded to Pittsburgh in 1968 but waived before appearing in a game, then claimed by Minnesota. He went on to play 12 seasons with the Vikings and was one of 11 players to appear in all four of the franchise's Super Bowls (IV, VIII, IX, XI).
