Wayne Connelly

Wayne Francis Connelly, a Canadian ice hockey right winger, was born December 16, 1939, in Rouyn, Quebec, and grew up in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He played in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, and Vancouver Canucks before finishing his career in the World Hockey Association.

Connelly began with the Peterborough Petes, where he scored 235 points over four seasons from 1956 to 1960 and won the Red Tilson Award in 1959–60 as the Ontario Hockey League's most outstanding player. He scored his first NHL goal on November 29, 1961, at Chicago Stadium, in Boston's 7–4 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. On October 19, 1966, he scored a power-play goal in Boston's 6–2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on which Bobby Orr recorded his first NHL point.

Over 543 NHL games, Connelly recorded 133 goals and 174 assists for 307 points. He then played 366 games in the WHA for the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Cleveland Crusaders, Calgary Cowboys, and Edmonton Oilers, totaling 167 goals and 162 assists for 329 points.
