Wayne Dillon

Gerald Wayne Dillon (born May 25, 1955) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who competed in the World Hockey Association and the National Hockey League between 1973 and 1980. As a youth, he played in the 1967 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Scarboro Lions. One of the first underage players to sign with a WHA team before becoming eligible for the NHL amateur draft, Dillon began his professional career with the Toronto Toros, recording 95 points in 1974-75. He was a noted scorer in both the WHA and junior leagues. The New York Rangers selected him 12th overall in the 1975 NHL amateur draft, after he had already played two seasons in the WHA. With the Rangers, he recorded 44 points in his rookie season in 1975-76. He also played in the WHA with the Birmingham Bulls and in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets. Injuries hindered his performance and forced him into an earlier retirement. He played 229 NHL games. His brother, Gary Dillon, played briefly in the NHL as a centre for the Colorado Rockies.
