Wayne Hightower

Wayne Hightower (January 14, 1940 – April 18, 2002) was a professional basketball forward born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Overbrook High School before enrolling at the University of Kansas, which he left after his junior year. Standing 6 feet 8 inches tall, Hightower played in both the NBA and ABA from 1962 to 1972. Before entering the NBA, league rules barring players with remaining college eligibility complicated his path: after signing with the Pittsburgh Rens of the American Basketball League was voided over a territorial dispute, he played for Real Madrid Baloncesto before beginning his decade-long professional career in North America.
