Clifford Carlton, known as "Cactus Gavvy", was born March 23, 1881 in Poway, California, and died May 23, 1963 in Laguna Beach, California. He made his major-league debut in 1908 and was associated chiefly with the Philadelphia Phillies, with his final big-league appearance coming in 1920, a span of 13 seasons.
