John Hummel (April 4, 1883 – May 18, 1959), known as "Silent John", was born John Edwin and hailed from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. At 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, he batted right-handed and threw right. He played in the major leagues from 1905 through 1918, a 13-season run, spending most of his career with the Brooklyn Robins of the National League.
